A Genetic Algorithm for Forest Firefighting Optimization

In recent years, a large number of fires have ravaged planet Earth. A forest fire is natural phenomenon that destroys the ecosystem in given area. There are many factors cause fires, for example, weather conditions, increase global warming and human action. Currently, there has been growing focus on determining ignition sources responsible fires. Optimization widely applied firefighting problems, allowing improvements effectiveness speed firefighters’ actions. The better faster team performs, less damage done. this work, resource scheduling problem formulated order to obtain best ordered sequence actions be taken by single combating multiple ignitions. objective maximize unburned area, i.e., minimize burned area caused with 10 ignitions located district Braga, Portugal, was solved using genetic algorithm. results obtained demonstrate usefulness validity approach.
